(CNN) – President Barack Obama went to the Czech Republic on Wednesday night to meet with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and sign an arms control agreement to reduce nuclear arsenals of both nations.

The new Strategic Arms Reduction Treaty (START), which was signed on Thursday by the two leaders is based on a previous agReem which expires in December.

Obama has called the treaty “under the most comprehensive gun control in almost two decades” and said that cutting the U.S. nuclear weapons in Russia and a third.

After meeting with Medvedev and attended the signing ceremony in Prague, the capital of the Czech Republic, Obama will have a dinner with heads of government of 11 countries – Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Slovakia and Slovenia.

The highlight of the trip is two days of the new treaty with Russia, which is another step in relations between the nuclear armaments of the former Cold War adversaries.
