One of the most famous print collections in the world this week was acquired by private investment arm of the human team, Michael Dell. In total, more than 185,000 photos of the stature of Henri Cartier-Bresson, Robert Capa, Elliott Erwitt, Ernst Haas and Eve Arnold were downloaded. I was surprised. We found no details of price venda true only estimates indicate that venda was valued at about $ 30 billion, and insured for $ 100 million.

There is a third party to intervene as well – thank God, the Ransom Center reputation – was responsible for scanning and cataloging of the work. From all I can say they have the chops to do things right. They are taking care of scanning images of each print, front and rear, which inevitably leads to discovering new ideas and new materials.

The good news: during the 5 years the Ransom House is doing its job, the collection can be studied with the work of the most historicquality of epic proportions and are discovered and shared.

The other good (-ish?) News: We believe that our friends at Magnum (respect) just sold the collection of print and not the rights to reproduce images. Lots of advantages for our community there – that, indeed, if any – but I have not heard the final word. I know the photographers to keep their copyright, but I have not heard if the images from these impressions meat (the file) are able to license the group after Dell House Rescue ends their practical work. It might be good to have some of the images in the public domain for educational reasons, could be shared with the REV model of Magnum photographers, but not sure how the machine might remove this from Dell.

… If you ask me, do not seem to be any bad news. From now. Something smells a little strange, but I can not find reasons for this sinking ship. I could go to prestigious Magnum. I suppose Magnum or sewnis so good, and my fingers are crossed because, as much as I'm not mad by Mr. Dell computers, there is a “historical record / buy art for its value as an investment,” thought his investment group.

I am an optimist and have a strong belief / high hopes the meeting will be held and became popular with good taste, and not fought in a machine ugly. The going to believe …

Only time – and some details of the offer – will tell.
